i am very new to this so please bear with my naivity. i have cut some video in iMovie and need to do some post work in after effects. is there any way that i can not compress the video before bringing it into AE? or if i have to bring in an MPEG to AE, is there anyway to not compress on export from AE? sorry if this does not make any sense, but just seems that there is alot of extra compression going on.... thanks folks,

not a huge video person myself but I would guess that if you converted the MPEG to an AVI file it might help avoid some of the compression issues.... maybe
*just a guess. Again i don't do tons of video work.

You want it to not compress BEFORE bringing to AE or FROM AE?

Export your video from imovie as a QT with the animation codec. It is lossless and you can binrg it into AE and wont lose anything. Export out of AE with the same codec and bring it back to your editor.
And to awnser your question, yes, even though it is video you should still use the animation codec. Try it, it will work.

p.s. if you want to maintain the alpha channel, choose millions of colors plus in the settings. If you dont have an alpha channel just use millions of colors.

Josh, the link to your "Smoker" short appears to be incorrect...sends me to the SG Tri spot.
