I was reading somewhere (about the same discovery) that Flores was also populated with dwarf elephants, as well as giant rats and komodo dragons.

the reptiles thrive and grow large on the island because the heat doesn't bother them.
mammals, such as humans, on the other hand, don't have enough surface area to cool off enough to survive. the smaller genes are thus the only ones that passed on so the species grew smaller.

evolution can mean lots of different things, scarabin. There's evolution which is adaptation within a species and then there's the imaginary kind that says species turn into other species.
