are there ever situations where a prospective employer would expect you to pay for your own flight/stay when interviewing out of town? and how does this topic usually get brought up during the initial phone conversation? also, when they do pay for all of that, do they make the arrangements or leave that up to you and just hand you a check the day of the interview?

i paid my way out but they paid me to work for them 2 days while i was there
like a working interview
i was on vacation anyway and met a girl in person finally that i had met online like 3 years prior
even stayed with her the night between my two days of work
i may have strayed off subject
they didn't pay for my transportation there, thay usually reserve that for if you actually get hired

we've had 2 programmers do that where i work in the last couple of months.
i guess if you want the job and move badly enough, you take it upon yourself.
