Actually there pretty much the same. Usb is faster for certain things Firewire is better for others.
Its close. actually.

Unless they have updated to a new version of firewire, I always thought USB was faster. I think it was usb2.0 running at 480 mbit/s and FW at 400 mbit/s.
Not positive though.

usb has been known to be faster on pc's. firewire is faster on macs.
i would get firewire for a harddrive. usb uses the computers resources.
