best backup software

thanks to everyones help i've decided on purchasing a lacie external hard drive to back up my files.
my next question is this:
what's the best software to use with this drive to automate my backups? i want something that will know which files have been modified and will know to only update those.

Retrospect is one of the industry standards...
http://www.dantz.com/en/products…I use it on Mac... setup can be a pain, but really configureable.
Remember this type of backup software stores everything in its own database files, but its easy to restore whole folders, and really important... it acts as a versioning system, storing every version saved of every file, so you can step back to any previous date... and you can also restore an entire disk to any previous date's state if you are using the Snapshot feature.
