Turkey is much more valuable for the EU than all the other new Eastern European countries.
Turkey has been doing quite well on its own so that one wonders why they bother approach the EU at all. Three of the biggest engineering projects in the world are under way in this country: The Maiden’s Tower on the Bosphorus, the Baku-Ceyhan pipeline and Southeastern Anatolian Dams.
