my only suggestion on that is save some cash. get at least 2-3 months of savings up for what you would normally make at your day job. also get a few projects coming in to float you into the new transistion, and then try. that is how it all came about for me

soon, i need to stop serving myself to the companies and do what i really wanna do.
i feel like dropping everything and just design for myself for a year.
- hydro740
exactly. tho i do need to check for typo's.. damn
but over the years i've been involved with so many other people's vision...
what it came down to is when i worked at my past job, i didn't really get to do what i was stoked about. it was a side project here and there, but never enough to keep me happy. it's my turn. if it works, cool, if not, well, on the knees for the man :)

nice!
i like the fact you said it
"to focus on what I feel passionate about, rather than working on something that someone else is passionate about"many of us feel the same way but only few actually do what you did.

I collect quite a few things, scan, trace (element wise) i also just spend a lot of time putting together custom pieces that i know i would use. example, find some cool looking bird wing, go into illustrator and trace it. it'll add a little something to the piece. maybe do a butterfly, but with bird wings.. who knows.
i've been doing it for a while, so it's pretty second nature to me on who i develop things

To me vector work is very tedious and time consuming but I am guessing you've got the workflow down so smooth that you can get work accomplished relatively quickly.

hey hydro, I'm with seed, where do you get the time to draw all those vectors? or do you have a significant library of starters? either way, hot. super hot. nice work.

nice.. totally appreciate the info... thats all i needed to know.
everyone tries to play it like $300 is max which i say is total BS..

rates are different with different companies, on average, it's between 300-500 per shirt design depending on the company. i feel odd telling what each company does, but that is a general average.
