when applying for jobs I think this is a bit of a red heriing, to include or leave out, what do you think, anyone got some examples of what they send....to prospetive job sites

leave out and send... what, just your resume?
definately use it as a means to introduce yourself, outline specific benefits that you bring to the table, and to express your interest in meeting with them.

Your covering letter although most times will sound really dumb when you read it outloud to yourself will bridge the gap between looking at your CV which is short, brief and factual and throwing it in the trash. If you don't sound eloquant enough to hold a decent conversation, you won't be considered for an interview.

Most people leave out the "objective" bit, right? As it's pretty obvious and also redundant if you mention it in the cover letter.
