the second one is really good. in both though, jack is a lot more detailed than meg, but it works better in the second one.

Thanks, I know, I would like to be able to simplify jack more to fit with the meg, but I haven't been able to keep the likeness like I did with meg when I pair him down.

Yeah, second once has the best balance but I think Jack's chin may be too heavy? I think the strokes don't have much variation. Maybe that's intentional but next to Meg I think it looks a bit out of place.
Looks good though!

Jack2 has a "Crow" feel to it. :) dark and brooding.
in both, meg looks whimsical. a neat contrast.

I know, in 2 he looks like a mix between the crow and the joker,
but the likeness is there when you look at the reference. I like the contrast of there moods as well. Do you think I should vary the lone weights more?

i don't. I like how, with meg, you were able to catch her look and emotion with so little. I'm afraid it'll get too busy if start adding different line weights.
Like maybe, in #1, instead of doing a thin stroke for the bottom part of his eye (to differentiate it from the dark circles/bags) do what you did with meg's eyes but upside down.
does that make sense?

yeah the jack needs work. If you didnt have the reference picture I would say that it is way off (jack). Meg is on though.

I think the first one fits the style of Meg best, but true you could simplify him more.
good stuff.
