Hi there, take a look at the jpeg, all the elements are 100% black, alll images are greyscale but I'm getting this mad variation when I export as colour 'unchanged'. If I export as colour 'CMYK', the newspaper prints the thing in CMYK, even though if I bring it into photoshop it registers perfect as 100% black :( anyone tell me what's happening or a way around it (apart from exporting as an eps or something) thanks

I f it's for print I wouldn't be embedding JPG's to start with. Better off embedding a Grayscale TIFF. Also try expoting without messing with the color settings in the PDF.

if you're sure its not an rgb image, that's odd--I'm stumped

try "colorizing" the image with InDesign black

I ain't placing jpegs!! that's just to upload the image. All images are gryscale black, Rand I tried colorizing the image, even made a new colour of 100% black in case the default black was locked in some way. Wierd

For some reason Indesigns Black isn't black when compared to PS or AI. I've had to work around it in the past by using 'registration' in the swatched palette even if its being printed Black and white. It's the only way I can get Black, Black. If you know what I mean.
If you do figure it out let us all know!

have you made sure your color settings are the same as what you have for PS? check them from PS to ID.
In ID it's Edit>Color Settings...

profile mismatch?

make the canvas size of the image large enough to fill the page. that way you're not matching any colors.
