Microsoft Graphics & Animation Suite:

but for offices who take graphics in house, this is going to change our world.

Nice try, Redmond. To date, their best design product is PowerPoint. It's going to be hard to shake that rep. Unless they release it for free, it's doomed to fail.

Yah, right.
Move along please.
Don't buy hype.
Don't fall for it.
You have more to live for.

ahah, the demo did'nt even work in safari

Another Microsoft regurgitation rather than innovation...
Maybe now we'll have more design options for the "Blue Screen of Death." Like maybe when you first install the software, you can create you're own customized error page for future use in the suite. Since it happens so often, maybe you could have several and it randomly chooses one for each crash. Slick!
Honestly though, I prefer working on a PC with MS products as the restarts allow me to grab another coffee.

it's bad enough that clients sometimes take courses in Photoshop and then start suggesting using certain filters to make crap images look better, but now this?? Microsoft Word is fucked up as it is with people thinking they can do layout work in that, but now this?? Batton down the hatches people, I see trouble ahead...

Adobe Killer? Rather not!

lets hope they dont make life hard for adobe. ie: make adobe software run like a dog on their new OS
- imakedesign0
has anyone tried microsoft acrylic (photoshop alternative) because its actually really good.
- quamb0
whyyy... why do microsoft have to copy everyone?
its craaazy!! everything thing that microsoft does is a rip of something else. the fact taht the xbox even exists boggles my mind.

What they're doing is a leap forward from flash, check out sparkle- it's like flash combined with after effects with full 3d capabilities but without the plugin requirement. Check out something Fluid made for the North Face

I've been a flash guy for 6yrs and things I've wanted to do, like mapping video to vectors or using 3d is impossible short of hand crafting every frame or being an AS genius.Acryllic is pretty decent but I could live without it.
I haven't tried their wysiwyg but it will probably suck considering that they're the makers of that pile of crap frontpage and they probably just polished up that turd.
I truly don't have any software loyalities because I have other things to bind my identity to, but what sparkle does seems like it should make websites more interesting rather than the played out suckfest it has been for the past 3 years.

Actually, for application development, Sparkle looks pretty incredible, though I can see the same problems with poorly designed Flash sites translating to the Windows application UI.

yeah, right uber...likewisely been Flashing for that time, and am very excited by the new Sparkle offering seen in that vid..
One thing though - I am unsure from that video what the actual nature of deplyment would be; when they showed that section, all the guy did was publish to some prop. format, then open it up in ie7, which set alarm bells ringing, actually - Id much prefer a plug-in route than some nasty ie only application...if the deplyed files really will work cross-browser, then I'll go for this..would be interested in seeing this xaml concept too, it seems to be somwhat ahead of AS in terms of real object-orientation, or will I need to invest time in c## ?

I would be VERY surprised if the web app package opened in anything but Vista/IE7.

I have to second that.
Love the technology - but I wonder if by the time macromedia / adobe catch up (now that they've merged), will this microsoft stuff not mean anything?
It probably won't be 2-3 years before the majority of web-users catch up to the capability of what microsoft is showing us now... so perhaps the adobe/macromedia equiv. will be well underway by then and microsoft will be less of a 'media' threat?
dunno really - just a thought... I mean - Flash 8 just came out - but I won't publish in Flash 8 capabilities for another year probably... just to make sure that users are caught up on the plugin...
... so wouldnt' the same go for microsoft? orrrr... no... because it doesn't require a plugin? or does it require ie7?
i'm so confused

Supposedly you can dl that northface demo somewhere and run it on xp and 2000. I posted another one of these videos in another thread like this with some guy playing with sparkle. It looks a little too robust at first glance for a designer-only app. Supposedly it has enough security features to run as a website.
All I know is that I'm sick of 2A and experimental sites being the highwater mark of webdesign. Hopefully this will run on all platforms and someone like natzke will do something new and exciting.

(Sep 17 05, 13:59)I might be wrong.

And remember when SVG was going to kill flash?
Sparkle is more of an UI WYSIWYG than a web development tool. i.e. Get ready for websites to look as crappy as when developers do them.
