I left London (Parents move to the USA) when I was 3 years of age.
Now I want to move back (I'm 28 now).My question is can I make it in the UK with $100,000 USD?
If I was to move to back to the UK I would be living behind a job that I've had for over 6 years and my home that I bought 2 years ago.

$100, 000 = approx £60,000 which wont buy you much in london but would be a good deposit on a place.

I know $100,000 won't buy much either.
But can I buy a Flat with 2 rooms and 2 bath and not be strap for cash?

or move to mexico and you won't have to work for the next 10 years...

Not to be a spoil sport, but the grass is always greener on the other side. Watch your moves with that much money lying around. Not that it's that, that much.

I like Mexico...if I wasn't married!

cant you sell your house that you bought 2 years ago? and how much would you think you caan get? or is the $100k the funds from selling your house?
also do you have a job in the UK? or are you just dropping everything and winging it?
:)

the 100k is from the sale of my current home.
I'll be going over with out a job.

100k USD or 60k GDP will get you a parking space in London. Forget the bathrooms. As mentioned it would be a good deposite on a flat. Look at www.findaproperty.com Most people rent in london as the house prices are rubbish.

I'd find a flat .. and put down the biggest deposit you can , with a little spare to tide you over until you get a job. Keep your mortgage payments as small as possible.

That's what I had in mind in placing the largest deposit that I could and keep a bit of extra cash while my and my wife get a job.

Would you be able to get a mortage without a job?

I lived in Helsinki and visited London many times. For 60,000 pounds, yeah you should be able to get something decent I would think. Maybe not the best of the best that's for sure, but like someone said a down payment on something very nice or buying something average.

Here in the US you can if you place a large deposit and have cash in the bank.
In the UK I would assume you would need a job first.
I've design for over 8 years and I have never had a hard time finding a job here.

monk...you are going to make a very huge change in your life, dont rush into it and make sure you have all angles covered before you jump into this, finacial security is the key and you shouyld really try to find some kind of work before you jump out of what you have...its reaally easy to say you never had a hard time finding work but your situation will be different going overseas. i reall suggest you find solid work and get that going before you make tthe move, you will see how much easier your life can be without that one headache of finding an a place to live and on top of that finding work and on top of that eating and having fun and on top of that getting laid and on top oif that...
well you get the point, you arrent a child anymore, so why not face this issue with all your cards in your hand and knowing you have stuff solidified before rather than after, and even then you may not find work so easily being a foreigner.
take your time before becasue your time after will be going so fast and you wont be able to stop and smile at that hot girl or boy depending on your choice...

monk, the average house price in the uk is £160,000 and in london that is way higher. you wont get much for your 60k or you'll be in a rough as fock area or a shoe box. check out some of the uk property websites like http://www.rightmove.co.uk
