i'm wondering if anyone here rasterizes complex AI layouts before going to process press.. ?
i'm considering whether to rasterize the piece i'm working on as a means to make sure transparency/ layers/ etc print correct.
obviously some detail is lost when converting to pixels but is it ever noticable..?

should be fine if you spec 300dpi.
or save it as a tif, set it up in indesign.

nice. i think all i needed is 1 reply to be convinced.. gonna raster the biatch.
thx.

why not save it as a PDF?... most printers can handle transparencies and layer blends in AI now.

yeah i usually go pdf... but this job has tons of layers with bitmaps and vectors and photos and and and...
would just feel safer if this one was pixels.
probably end up a smaller file too.

pixels will be fine at 300, what type of pinter is producing it... is it a mag ad some offest piece?
i always try to stay away from converting my vector to pixels because it does show up less sharp in the end depending on how quailty the print run is.

offset... garment hangtags... printer is overseas so i never get to press proof or see anything close.
i'll probably just raster it at an excessive res... like 450 or so.

ooh... overseas, no press proof.
yeah i would pixel that shit too to avoid getting back a few thousand fucked up tags.
is that for the cartel?... i emailed dave about a posting on the site looking for a designer.

if it's done offshore it's prob done with a really lo screen/film grade too, so dont stress too much about the pixels after raster.

btw thats an older comp/ in progress :)

nice tim!... i really like the work you're doing for them.
yeah... its all good, i wasn't looking for anything in-house, was just wondering if he had anything i could do on the side but i know you have that under control. dave said he would keep me in mind if they needed more help.
