Would anyone know the best way to simulate paper ripping in Flash?
I have to do a web banner from a piece of already designed advertising that includes text sitting on a piece of ripped/torn paper - I thought it might be nice to simulate the paper being ripped away to reveal text underneath...
Any and all advice would be appreciated...

masked png's

Ok.
How does one go about making masked PNG's then?
(sorry, bear with me... I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to Flash...)

export them[pngs] from Photoshop , import into flash and use masks in flash. the pngs need to be png-24 to support transprency.

So you're saying to bring them in as separate frames and animate the paper ripping step by step using masks?
Interesting...

Layer 1: whole paper.
Layer 2: ripped paper.
Layer 3: mask. (masking layer 2).Animate the mask over the ripped paper making it appear in the direction of the rip.
Does that make sense?

Hmmm...
I understand the Layers and I think I understand the idea of animating the mask down in the direction of the rip but how do I make it look like it is tearing from a corner, ie. that the corner is being "pulled" by an invisible hand?
Are there engines available for something like that? Or tutorials anywhere that might help?

any way you do it, a sequence of png's will probably not work just due to file size since it's a banner ad
