I want to break this dvd movie up into little clips to use at a benefit for the flood victims.
What can I use to rip it? Can dvds be "locked"? and is there a way around that?? I will use Vegas 6 to edit.
Thanks for helping.

use mac the ripper to get the dvd broken out then us MacMPEG2Decoder to get the video in a quicktime format... if you need the decoder i can send it to you.. works very well.....

get the full pack, with the codecs.
Give you more options when encoding.

Thanks fake-it - I will check in a few.
Kuz. I have DL the Gordian... very nice... many thanks
I was able to get a .VOB out of the DVD using Gordian but i'm not sure what to do next. When I import into Vegas there is no sound. Ideally I would like to have a avi to play with, but this is all new to me... sorry
thanks for your helps everyone!

If you have a miniDV cam, you can record it on tape, and then import the footage, is probably faster

I have had success ripping VOB files into DV format for editing in final cut using an app called ffmpegx.
