My story. Went to school. Got job as a print/web designer out of school. Couldnt deal with taking orders, bitching clients, ideas getting torn.
Just got back into school for education, so I can teach art.
Still do work on the side.

i think i am a bit frustrated by the situation i am in. maybe things will get better.
i just need to hold on and keep going. at least telling myself this will help at the moment.

just keep on, keeping on...
HAHA, I always wanted to say that, now I'm off to get a mullet.

EMBRACE the evil that is american capitalism. Just realize that most people are idiots that deserve to be influenced and lied too. The attrition of corporate life will dissappear as you rise in the ranks of evil.

I can sympathize. I find the ups and downs of having a job that is constantly under critique pretty stressful at times. Even worse is when you are creating projects for people that are detached from their position and could care less... It is great when it is great though.

yeah fate,
that's what i keep telling myself. cash it all in and embrace the capitalism market. but i am starting to feel more empty inside.fuck it. i am gonna start drinking now.
- tkmeister0
nosaj, that's true.
nothing feel worse than seeing your work going down and not being able to anything about it.
- canuck0
Do what you gotta do man.
best o' luck.

I feel the same way. I'm working more towards illustration now. I have no idea how I'm gonna pay the bills with that though... maybe I'll get lucky. Fuck it. Time to pick up the acting career again...

i am gonna do what makes me feel better. become a myspace-whore.

Yeah, do what you gotta do, like the canuck says...
My only advice for you, and take it as you wish, is to make sure you have the best clients you can possibly have. One of my best friends is a marketing consultant, and he just told his biggest customer to piss off, because they were causing him so much grief. He's still got 3 other big accounts to keep him busy, and he is SO MUCH happier without the negative customer.
If you have clients that berate and criticise (not constructively) you for your work, then screw em, there's 5 more clients out there that will love the work you do, and will love working with you... You're spending a big chunk of your life doing this stuff, you should try to enjoy it as best you can...
Stay positive :)

you guys just need to get into an area you enjoy designing for more.
design something more exciting than what you are.

I read an excellent article about how everyone hates their job and designers didn't seem to get the memo about that. It's kinda true. It's almost a curse to pursue a career in something you enjoy so much. Kinda ruins the fun of it.
I think it helps to do stuff on the side (design or otherwise) so it doesn't seem like your whole effort is being given away to the clients. Do design work for art shows or magazines or take up a new hobby or something. Leave work at work.

I agree skelly.

As busy as I am, working night & day for over a month now, no breaks, not even weekends... I admit I really love it.
