all text from the ap story - this is simply unbelievable. Brown told them not to send trucks.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/ne…
The top U.S. disaster official waited hours after Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast before he proposed to his boss sending at least 1,000 Homeland Security workers into the region to support rescuers, internal documents show.
Part of the mission, according to the documents obtained by The Associated Press, was to "convey a positive image" about the government's response for victims.
The same day Brown wrote Chertoff, Brown also urged local fire and rescue departments outside Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi not to send trucks or emergency workers into disaster areas without an explicit request for help from state or local governments.

(Sep 7 05, 07:35)I read that op-ed.
This editorial has nothing to do with the accountability of this administration for their failures.
You're using the same 'blame-game' argumrnt Scott McLellan used yesterday when he took a beating the the WH press conference.
You should be ashamed of yourself for minimizing the suffering of those in need by distorting the discussion around the record of the government agencies accountable for alleviating that suffering.
God help us.

Hey dude. I wasn't saying YOU read that. I meant that everyone lurking in this post should read it because it has some great points.
What's on your concious that you felt guilty and assumed I was talking about you and your administration fingerpointing?
Damn dude. Chill out.

I realize that the relief effort was slow at first...
but isn't there a period of assessment in the initial hours after something like this?
They don't just rush trucks and support in without knowing the conditions on the ground, like flooded streets, blocked roads, etc.
IMO, there needs to be a massive storage facility and airport in the central US to be ready at the snap of a finger to provide relief efforts within 24 hours of something bad happening.
It would be stocked with more than a million military ready to eat meals, water, vaccinations, antibiotics, temporary shelter, clothing, etc.Hell, we had bombers ready 24/7 during the cold war, I don't see why we can't have planes fully loaded with relief supplies ahead of time to be dispatched to the site of a disaster. Especially something like this where there is advanced warning.
Always Be Prepared - Boy Scouts have a motto we can all learn from.

garrett - I am so sorry. I thought that your comment was directed at me, my bad.
nothing on my conscience per se, but I know you and I had conflict on PVN b4 so I just thought you were painting me as a hater. Again, apologies man!
Don't you think America deserves accountability? And is seeking accountability for wtf happened 'fingerpointing' or 'blame-gaming'?

Apology accepted.
I should have been more clear with my post. So I'm sorry too.
Sometimes the accountability and 'ok, who is to blame' can wait. Correct the problem first then figure out what the hell happened. But that can't always be done because the people smack dab in the middle want answers while they walk in chest deep water.

Here's the only Bush?Katrina post I will make today:

Firefighters on scene ordered to do - um, community relations?
Mismanagement up and down the entire line.

garret, I know what you mean about it not being the time to play the blame game. but that is how this administration sweeps things under the rug. the news cycle is short, you know?
