Hello everyone. Right now I'm in New York and I'm looking to move to a new city. I'm having trouble figuring out how to do this. Get the job first then move or the other way around? I realize I could do either but is one way smarter than the other for someone with not much cash?

Does anyone have any experiences they can share? Thank you very much!

    good luck with that!

dont get the job first...the first thing to do is research the areas you wish to live with-in...always check the hosipitals, the police activity situation, the people in the areas you want to live in the environment, the travel to and from occupation, the restaurants that the areas offer, life in general, its about quality of life that should be important considering you want to make a huge move in your life, make sure the job is just one part of the big picture...i say this becuase i feel anyone can work anywhere doing anything, you have to revolove your lifestyles around your environment. ask around and see what makes the "new" city so worth while to move before doing it.

another good thing to do is test the areas, like rent, not a hotel room, but a real apt, to justify how your life will change. yo ucan find a great spot huge apt but in a dangerous neighboorhood or a neighboorhood that doesnt have life. test it out! dont rush into it!

    good luck!

"i feel anyone can work anywhere doing anything" - -

Don't you know there are some of us who CAN'T get work anywhere doing anything!?

Get the job first unless you're sure you have a sofa to crash on.

Thanks to the respondants! I'm leaving New York because I've been here since scool, going on 8 years now, and I need a change of pace, I hope I can find it elsewhere.

ilovepill and nuggler, you guys represent what's going on in my head perfectly. On the one hand I want to dive into a new situation and let the chips fall where they may, but on the other i'm scared that I'll end up blowing through my savings and end up not finding anything.

How is the situation out there in SF, Nuggler? It's pretty high on my list...
