was just astounded to discover that my flatmate didn't even know of the hurricane.
he's Japanese, living in sydney. Been here for 9 years.
So I told him how surprised I was that he didn't know, and he said that he doesn't read western news - just Jjapanese.
He showed me the only story the leading japanese news site had on it's front page -

Mind you, from what I've seen of varying countries' news services, we're all just as bad - America's especially - it the story's not about them or more than 5000 dead, or about Iraq - it doesn't get a look in...
...But that Nipponese frontpage is verging on ridiculous.
As long as we keep on buying their Produkt and not sending too much gweilo over there, I imagine they're happy.
