alright, is it just me, or does just letting the city die seem like a good idea?
spend a few grand, get everyone out. spend the $10 billion currently being approved by the house (and any money generated by public support) and build a newer, better city. trying to rebuild nola is pointless; half the city was a complete shithole to begin with.
really; build a city with the best public transportation, the best schools, the most energy efficiency (maybe some of those nifty wind power generators?). if the usa actually tries to rebuild new orleans, this could just happen again next year.
or am i just totally wrong on this?

get real dude. what do you do with an entire infrastructure and city of people while they build this new glorious city? this aint sims city.
- prodigalslacker0
what are you going to do with them while the city is being drained? when millions dont have houses to return to ? when nobody has drinking water?
maybe start building this second, because rebuilding the city cant start until everyone is out, which is going along incredibly smoothly.
- emokid0
draining will take a lot less time compared to making this super city you speak of.
- uberdesigner0
let it sink along with every other coastal city in the world over the next 200 years?
- uberdesigner0
and to be honest, a shiny new city will still be in the south, and therefore will still suck balls
- backwards0
designing a super city would take a lot of time, no?
- uberdesigner0
every super city needs a monorail
- prodigalslacker0
maybe not a super city but at least one better than nola.
i mean, rebuilding a coastal city that is below sea level = waste of money.

no you're not wrong maaan, you're an asshole © the dude
- blaw0
new orleans is one of my favorite cities.
you're fucked to call it a shithole.
- prodigalslacker0
i am fucked to have an opinion, i know.
i think half the south is a shithole.i think new orleans was pretty impoverished, sure it has history but some times you need to let go and cut losses. dumping tons of money into trying to rebuild it doesn't matter, because all of the history the city had is most likely lost underwater.
- monkeyshine0
sorry but your opinion is idiotic and insensitive. and who the hell are you to claim half the south is a shithole. have you spent anytime in the south?
- prodigalslacker0
yeah i just got the hell out after spending four years in savannah for college. during which i visited many parts of the south, all of which were miserable.
- dbloc0
this thread is miserable
- pepe0
i wish i had the energy for a more articulate response but you are a ignorant dumbass
- dbloc0
let this thread sink
- mrdobolina0
abandoning new orleans is a horrible idea, its just money, the us gov spends a billion a day in iraq. apparently that idea is viable.
- mrdobolina0
china will pay for it!!!!!!!!!!!!
- prodigalslacker0
no i think iraq is the biggest mistake of all. but let's not get in a war thread.
it is just money, yes; unfortunately we live in a capitalist society. thus, money is kind of the backbone of it.
new orleans is a valuable port, yes, but for a major metropolitan area, it makes no sense to have it be in a sub-sea-level area. build the major city in land and above water so if / when this happens again, there isn't such massive death.
