"The situation there is not far off from being as bad as 9/11 in the magnitude of lives affected and the impact this will have on the economy."
No, this will be much worse than 9/11. And I'm in New York.

I dont mean to be antagonistic, but lets not start comparing tragedies.
Both are terrible...TERRIBLE!

i'm with virtu. every time i hear the news, its getting worse.

9/11 had malicious intent which makes them different

(Sep 1 05, 15:54)depends from what angle you are looking at this.
i am sure some religious pricks think this is either intentional work of the devil or some serious disciplining lessons from "god"..
or simply put:
the terrorist is now replaced by the GSM.
(giant spaghettit monster)

however you look at it, its fucked down there and getting far worse by the day. The dude that posted in the PBS is down there, i just spoke with him. Its very very heavy. Whats frustrating is no matter peoples intentions which are all good, relief funds at this insant wont affect change down there for quite some time. i pray for those struggling down there.

the religious nuts are right, not only does god hates fags- he also hates gumbo and happy hour

PJ,
Im with you man. Your comment about funds, i disagree with a bit. Give to groups like Red Cross. Their donations go directly to the people on the ground. Making money a non-issue enables them to provide a constant stream of support to those who are suffering. Red Cross is the best.
Prayers go out to them.
- mrdobolina0
yeah the red cross rules. what would these people do without them?
- ********0
the red cross is good since it is not political. and this fact alone proves you can't trust your own govt.
- virtu0
no, the red cross is good because they respond instantly and they provide more support than any other independent organization. I was so impressed with them during the tsunami.

The difference between 9/11 and New Orleans is that on 9/11 everything happened in a concentrated area.....most of NY had power and clean running water
that same dayHurricane Katrina has put an entire city under water
Who knows how long until the power is restored and clean water is running again???My heart goes out to everyone
who has been affected by this tragedy from New Orleans to Mississippi and Alabama.

One can't really help but think of 911 because of the magnitude of the unfolding tragedy...and I think it's also so hard to fathom the scale. Who really knew this kind of desperation could happen in America?
- pepe0
i wasnt baggin on those relief efforts in terms of their intentions, but talking to my boy down there the need for help is immediate and it just seems like the turn around time in those efforts albeit good in intention is proving a bit slow.

Soldiers and money being used on the pointless war being held abroad would be very welcome at home right now.
