div's and iframes Q

I've got a basic web design question. I'm mainly a print designer and am now just breaking into the web side of the industry. I am currently working on a site that has an iframe within that displays the pages you can navigate to through the nav bar. Somewhat like Newstoday I guess. However, I understand that iframes can limit search engine capabilities and was recommended to use div's instead. I know that div's can embed specific content into the scrolling window itself, but can that scrolling window be linked to the contents of a navigation button? The whole point of using iframes in the first place was to keep the viewer on one page for easier navigation. Any suggestions are welcome.

I would like to know about these mysterious Divs, as I use I-frames quite a bit. I'm also more used to the CMYK side if things.

in your div id {in the style sheet} define a height and width and set overflow:auto;
when the content gets too large it will automatically scroll, googlebot will read the content like anyother on the page.
you can use html formatting in divs just like in a standard page

the div will not function as an iframe (no src attribute). You may want to look into using the XMLHTTPRequest object for embedding new content when something is clicked in the nav. Check out some of the prebuilt stuff people have put together for AJAX.
