Why do advertisers need to rely on shock tactics instead of being truly creative these days?

shock tactics? are you joking? i think the old beneton adverts showing new born babies is shock tactics but not this.

i wouldn't call that a shock tactic. perhaps a teeny-tiny bit in poor taste, but, oh, nevermind...

"so I see it", I said.
"I could talk about this advert for ever", he said.
"You have", I said,
"So how much?", I said.
"£15 million", he said.
"But why didn't you use the money to keep my local branch open?", I said.
"Too late", he said,
"it's closed", he said.

the agency responsible (bbh) has become so reputed for making ads that get banned/complained at/cause controversy....
same guys that did the kfc ads (most complained about ads ever)... also the lynx ad in a field by an airport landing strip (by heathrow) i think

I freaking loved that ad. it made me piss myself with laughter, he pure swells up and looks like a mad bog creature ha ha.

yeah I loved that ad too chossy, cmade me piss myself. Was a bit shoked however that Barclays would do something of the sort.
