I'm going to be staying at my parents house soon 'pet sitting' and they have no broadband etc... I'm thinking of installing php and mySQL on my iPod shuffle... so I can use it on whatever PC I like... is this possible/easy enough to do?

I don't think it'll work.
they need a server to run on.
take along a windows installation cd and install IIS for example...

oh yeah.. was going to put apache indian on it too

and run it on the shuffle?
no idea squire, be interested in knowing if it does work though!!

thinking of building a little app where you can stick all your stuff on it, all as one easy download...

it would work in theory, however if you were to use apache for example, all the configs need to be set up with explicit drive address's, so the chance is your shuffle/pen drive will get assigned a different drive letter on every machine it goes on, thus the server won't work. There is a chance there may be a work around if you do some digging, but I doubt it.

Probably best for me to be able to set the drive address on different machines if that is possible... e.g assign it as J for example...
or is that not possible

for the fourth time, lets see if the pvn lets me post, this is getting boring!
Best thing to do is intall apache, php and mysql on the c: drive in a folder such as "webserver" then copy this to a cd. Dont forget to copy php.ini that you have placed in windows system, and mysqld.dll too if i remember correctly.
Configuring drive letters is a pain in the ass so steer clear!
Unfortunately I see no easy way round this!

I managed to get the server all working on an iPod shuffle...
only problem with it is...I LEFT IT AT HOME TODAY!!!

classic, especially leaving it at home ;)

I've just found a much better one though... that took 5 minutes to set up... rather than all evening!

simply download MAMP and copy it to your shuffle.
