What is industry standard to charge for design and coordination of printing for a 8' x 10' backdrop for a tradeshow?
anyone ever done one?

depends, the biggest weve done so far was like 5X8

What did you end up charging for that? Did any problems come up?

yeah I just made a couple for a trade show. one was 7.5 by 25 meters and the toher was 11 by 2.5 meters. i think the irst problem you havbe there is that it doesnt look at all the same on a screen as it does when printed so large. Try to leave white space dont clutter it up, and make sure the work is nicely finnished

i just finished printing some backdrop material for a telethon here at the station.
if i were to have charged.. i would have said at least $800 for the work, plus printing charges...
see if you can lump mounting into the printing charges so you get your money seperate from that work..

usually an hourly charge, and i did it one of them on a 1ghz powerbook.... good grief...my partner did the other on his G5...so he wasn't crying like i was.

you should charge like any other design - how long will it take you. and if you can keep it vector so building it a full size wont be a problem - i did a giant map that was 20' x 8' - it looked sick.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I was hoping to get an idea of what others have charged. I know people say my hourly rate x however long it might take but i want to have a general idea of what to quote the client.
I don't think the client would like me saying look it's $X hr and it will take as long as it takes. Plus sometimes you can knock something out in a few hours but you know the work is worth more than the time you spent so it would be nice to have an industry average.
