FLV vs SWF

I've been playing around with Sorenson Squeeze and outputting flv's and swf's ...
It seems really easy to load swf's into flash dynamically... what do i need to do for flv's to work?
I know that flvs run at their own frame rate, which is good as I may have NTSC and PAL movies, but what are the other advantages
Why is nothing simple?
Any advice, tutorials would be greatly received!

FLV's can be truely streamed with Flash Comm. Not sure if you can do it with other servers yet. But I think that is the main advantage

Hmm... haven't got that

Using the netstream object you can have them stream in from any server you like. I think. We use them on most of our sites. Our code guy built a player that I just re-skin when required. There are plenty of them out on the net.

FLVs can be streamed only from a FlashComm server.
From any other server you get a progressive download, meaning that it will start to play before it is entirely loaded.
SWFs load entirely before they start to play.
Trying to find a tutorial too..

hmm. i don't think its true streaming if not on Flash Comm. ie. the player caches a few frames them plays them rather than streaming but I could be wrong

Quick google on.. Don't know if that one is any good.

yep, sorry - its not true streaming. You just set a buffer time and once it has filled it, it will start to play.

cool ta... will take a look...
I don't mind letting the user wait for the clips to load as I'd rather they watched them all in one go anyway... otherwise it can ruin the impact somewhat

nice link skt. I like to auotmatic bandwidth detection and stream choice

Just finished this site that has several flv's.

Is that the way you want the video displaying?
- Engage_London0
have you noticed though that on a lot of these players when you drag the slider about; particularly near to the amount that has preloaded... it totally fecks up and stops playing?

are they flv's skt?
I've always been put off because the file sizes are larger. Any other reason to use them apart from true streaming??

(Aug 19 05, 03:48)qt's from the splash page. All the little clips inside the site are flv's.
The film is shite by the way.
