IE/Firefox Div based fun!

this is a dumb question, but my brain is 0wned! I am trying to get a div to sit flush in the browser, i.e. 0 margin. it works fine in IE but there is a gap at the top in firefox. what is this crazyness? css is such a pain to learn!

indeed i am learning as i go along so can't really say I know exactly how one style affects another (i am a product design student!)

answered my own moronic question, still dont understand the seemingly random nature. maybe i should get a book....
* {margin: 0; padding: 0}
is all that was needed!
