so i thought i'd burn all my old work onto some dvd-rs i just bought (my first time burning a dvd), and i did so on 3 dvd-rs using toast and the superdrive that came with my g5.
i then deleted said files from my hard drive in order to clear up some space.
i just went to retrieve one of the files from one of the disks for a project i'm working on, and when i put the dvd-r into my machine it just spins around for a while then spits the disc back out at me, without ever mounting.
just what the hell is going on here? i tried restarting, making sure the dvd waas properly placed in the drive, etc.
fuck, i'd hate to think all those files are irretrievably lost. can someone help me? am i doing something wrong?

Are you sure you really did burn the DVD first time?
- Engage_London0
i had the same thing... but think it was because of having to many levels of directories

the dvd-rs in question are
"fujifilm DVD-R
for data and video
4.7 gb / 120 min
up to 8x write speed"

(Aug 18 05, 05:11)well i can see the data on the underside of the disc like a normal cd so i'm assuming so
also, it went through the burning progress bar normally
like 5 min per disc

Its like this, when you're coping the files to the DVD you're not actualy burning it!!! You're just creating a Spool for later burn! Its just when you try to eject or you say you really want to burn that you actually burn it!!!

yeah, i pressed the burn button and it went through the whole burning process like a normal cd-r

oh, ok so that is another story....

(Aug 18 05, 05:11)is this really an issue? it seems like a silly thing and that roxio would have a warning about it or something in their toast program...
i did have subdirectories within some of the directories...

i can usually get the stuff off there.... just have to be presistent... as ocassionally it will then not see the disc
- scarabin0
that's like horrible gay right there
i paid nearly 4 grand for this piece of shit and i apparently have to burn a dvd multiple times and hope one of them "sticks"?
fuck you apple
your ipod sucks too
- scarabin0
so um,
i can see the data tracks on the disc, but can't access it? what the fuck was it doing while burning?
fucking bastard
i bump this thread out of hatred for apple

Could be down to the standard used?
ISO or Joliet... ISO is rather limited ie. filenames are limited to 8 characters, directory structure is limited to 8 'branches'...
Joliet is pretty unlimited as far as that stuff goes...
This theory links to what james-engage said...
Good look fella.

Obviously, I meant luck, not look...

try viewing the disc on another machine. If you are sure that you've burnt it properly and you can see that it's been burnt there must be something there.
Check on a different mac and/ or pc.
Also, if the files are that important i would recommend making 2 copies anyway just to be sure especially with a dvd as the surfaces are not as robust as cd's.

so i tried it on a pc just now and it seems to work fine there.
weird.
