one is called flight 93, a real-time account of what happened on the 'failed' hijacking, although how anyone has a real-time account to go on i don't know.
another is oliver stone's flick.
i personally think this is absolutely stupid; it will be a monetary grasp on people's feelings about a tragic event, and chances are the films will make people just keep wondering "why" it all happened... even though the terrorists who committed it actually sort of explained why they did it.
unbelievable.

hey fellow Portlander
It was bound to happen - there's money to be made.
- honest0
exactly, it's all about the money and you know people will go to see these movies.

11th September 2001 is not something that money should be made from. Anyone trying to do so is, in my view, not worthy of having their teeth pissed on if their mouth were on fire.

firstly, I find it ironic that anyone in America would be surprised, or angered, by the fact that someone would capitalize on anything at all. That's what that USA was built on.
Second, if Oliver Stone has made a film entirely based around the Why? question then good on him. In case you didn't notice, people don't tend to as Why? enough. The idea that the "terrorists already explained why" is near-sighted and ignorant.

arthur:
yeah pdx represent. love your illus.visia... do people not ask why because they're generally not curious, or do they not ask why because they are lead on to believe the why doesn't matter by those in control of the media (including powerful personas like stone, but primarily the government)... i think if people started asking why more often (and saw it getting asked more) then the world might be a bit better off.

can't we just get over that 9/11 thing please? there are more people diying 'cause they have no home, no water, no food?
- MX_OnD0
more people dying EVERY SINGLE DAY than died on 11th September 2001 not that the deaths then were not tragic but for the love of whatever the incessant "9/11" this and "9/11" that only serves to cheapen the memory of those who did perish.
- pascii0
yes, it was tragic and the seed that planted more insanity in the head of some people.

Yeah. And for the life of me I still dont know what happend on November 9th. Maybe I should see this flick....

hahaha moth.
the most disturbing quality of 9/11 was its metatextuality. it was always already creating an eternal return of screens, media and visual stimuli. if stone plumbs that aspect of the event and does it with a modicum of subtlety, i reckon he might be able to change some minds. and that's a good thing.
- kelpie0
Ollie doesn't do modicums of subtlety though ;)
He's probably one of the better people to take it on (could you imagine a Micheal Bay version :0), but he'll have to supress his deep need to grandstand and promote hisself imo.
Plus, anyone responsible for Alexander shouldn't be left in charge of a camera again :/
- paraselene0
good point. i never went to see alexander. i think part of me still has that romanticised jfk notion of ollie stone from when i was a teenager, nameen?
- kelpie0
yeah, just don't watch it - all the Macedonians have ropey Oirish accents (for authenticity, you know?), it's horrific, not even funny :(
- paraselene0
whatever that guy does, he does big. failure included. :l
- kelpie0
got to give him that right enough...
