Hi all:
My wide and I are looking to move to Holland within the next 2 years. I am a designer specializing in print, and my wife is a content manager who lived there with family and has family (sister aunts uncles) there still. I was wondering if any of you could give me some pointers about getting jobs there, and the immigration process.
Thanks !

I'm waiting to hear back from a company in Utrecht that I interviewed with a few weeks back, if I get the job I will let you know about the Visa stuff.
So far I've just been sending work samples to perspective companies and taking it from there. I've only interviewed twice over there, both times were great experiences.
Being that you are not in a commonwealth nation, may make it more difficult for you to enter...

or learn Afrikaans and let the Nederlanders laugh at you.

pardon
think about where in the netherlands you want to live, look for some jobs in different cities
(amsterdam, rotterdam, the hague etc.)
good luck

Thanks Bolus. I am in the process of learning Dutch. Interesting laguage. I felt I should learn it. Rude to go to some else's house and disregard them by not learning the language. My wife is fluent. We have family in Amersfoort and Delft among other places. Love Amersfoort. What town is the marketing capital there with the most jobs? Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam?
Thanks again....

i've lived in delft for 19 years... nice small city, i moved to amsterdam a year ago and have lived in the hague for 6 months
anyway i like the big cities the best, just visit some before you make a decision... like amsterdam a lot. Lately rotterdam is 'growing', the new architecture and artscene is booming
not much apart from the big cities if you ask me (janne will disagree, obviously :)

Holland is small and good?
I like Delft, but I love the bigger cities. Not just there, but in general. Spent a lot of time in Utrecht and Amsterdam. Please tell me if i am wrong, but does Amsterdam seem like a playground for young stoner Americans? Does this bother the Dutch? It would bother me.
bolus, do you mind if I email you with questions now and again? Any advice or answers will be of great help to my wife and I. She hasn't lived there in 15 years, so she has some answers for me, but my questions may open more questions for us both. We will be there this winter for xmas and to discuss with her family our move.
I would like to find a company that would help sponsor at least one of us to move. Do you know of any?
THANK YOU!
- bolus0
sure, email me anytime
the tourists don't bother me, i just stay away from the most popular places (they're ugly and annoying anyway)
i don't think i can be of any help job wise, i'm not a designer and don't move around in the designworld a lot.
anyway, just drop me a mail, i'll see wat i can do :)
