Program keeps quiting( crashing) whenever I try and import a movie, anyone know why?
Happens as soon as I click on IMPORT.

have you bought ae? cause it's a common pirate copy issue.
need more info though, system specs. etc.?
- clerk0
you could always try and trash your preferences, that usually works for me.

No I havent,
but it works on a PC I use elsewhere, from the same source, strange
- clerk0

Also check the codec of the footage that you are importing, make sure it's installed.

Got it working now, its having problems reading an avi I have though on import, getting this error message : no such avi compressor, any idea how I can fix this?
- johnjoe0
perhaps use Divx doctor to decompress the file. You can find it on versiontracker.com
- nextseason0
Yeah, convert it to a quicktime.
- Bullitt0
This DIvX Doctor is only for mac, anything that will do this for windows?
- chossy0
what you need to do is open the avi file, in quicktime or whatever you are using, then go to file imformation then go to the video > format and it will tell you what CODEC has been used, then simply download the correct codec from the internet.
No worries :)

could use the blackmagic plugin.

Iam totally screwed, I cant get to grips with this AE at all, I use flash alot, the controls are nothing like it.
- Bullitt0
it'll take me months to learn, time I aint got, fucked :(
- tank0
bullit.its not a difficult program.
just start from the basics?its actually similar to flash.
- Bullitt0
Yeah since my last post, I sort of worked out a few things. From alot of the work Ive seen in AE, a kind of trace image effect is being used ( similar to the effect you can make in flash by masking an image then creating a timeline around that to give the impression the image is being drawn on screen) this effect constructed in a similar way in AE?

one way to do it is to get a gradiented image by something like..
draw a selection round your image in PShop,, convert it to a path, then draw along it with a brush set to 'fade' along the length of the path..
Then save this image, and do a transition in AE with the 'threshold' from 0 to 127, and it will 'draw' it in, as the threshold changes..
Tweak as necessary :)

Ta, Il give it a go
