quark+suitcase= i hate life

Try deleting all your font sets in the Suitcase window. Then create a new font set and add the fonts you need. If this does not work then search around your hard disk and delete the font data base (or copy it to disk). Restart and begin again.
Usually works for me.

I just did all of that. I backed up the fonts on my hard drive, deleted all of suitcase's fonts (from the bottom window), then re added the specific typefaces. Nothing. Restarted, still, nothing. I even disabled the Suitcase extension in Quark, which I think may have had something to do with this.

no clue what the deal is, i just switched to myriad bold, rather than pro bold. whatever.

maybe a font clash, did you make sure to open the fonts first before the document? (making sure that only one version was open?)

This isn't very nice, but my only suggestion is FAP. Suitcase and Quark together in OS X are known mischief makers.
