Hey all, I have a very difficult co-worker, that although she is a higher position than I, she is not in my group, yet feels the need to try and assert herself over me all the time.
Any good ways to deal with this?
And please try to keep at least some of them realistic, the typical response of, punch her, poop on her desk, scream at her and then cry, while funny are not very practical.

when she comes, refer to ur boss

you just said all the good ones

tell her blatantly, you might be above me, but you know less than me. look her dead in the eye and wait for her to look away.
you win. she'll never f*ck with you again

Ahh yes, neglected to mention, tried and no support from my boss on this one, and she site right across the aisle from me, makes avoidance impossible.

"assert herself over me all the time" what is she doing specifically, give an example?

Talk to the person that is both of your boss. Voice your concern to him/her.
- MrDinky0
just be nice but ask ur boss
you gotta hve your boss's support or seek advice on a senior who can protect u

For instance, we have a new contractor that came in and sits behind me, we were talking over the cube wall yesterday, so this morning she comes over and says,
"since you both are talkers, I am going to have to ask you to keep it down"

Is she smarter than you?

The only thing you can do is act so flaky and stupid with her that she thinks it is a waste of time to deal with you. I have one of these guys at my work and nodding and agreeing with him and then completely forgetting everything he asked me to do immediately after speking with him seems to piss him off so much that he tends to avoid me if at all possible.

no matter what man, she is still senior than you so you gotta show some respect at least
- radar0
start hitting on her making lude passes, and using corny pick up lines, she will then avoid you.
ex. are your pants mirror, because I can see myself in them.

Just counter her bullshit with objects...for instance, when she tells you to be quite...leave headphones on her desk the next morning....but keep talking to you neighbor.

pull "it" out next time she trys to boss around.

if you have no support from your boss and he/she really doesn't care then you need to be firm.
the next time she comes to you and pretends to be YOUR boss say 'i'm sorry, i thought i was to report to 'so and so' or something to the fact that 'yes we work together, and yes everyones opinion matters, but ultimately i work for someone else in another department. so i'll respect your opinion only if you respect mine.'
hey btw.
i'll be at the fox and hound next tuesday. stop in after i'm done shooting pool and i'll buy you a beerskee.
