I just found 2 big boxes full of legos in my attic that I thought had been sold long ago. isn't finding old toys great?

legos are no more legos anymore
i bet old sets are gonna get pricey and the set numbers become classics someday
But seriously, what I see in the stores these days are not blocks aymore.
Digital blocky future world built in our minds
"computer liebe" in your first walkman.. anyone remembers it?

lego was probably the favorite toy of any designer, architect, engeneer, with exception on fashion people perhaps.
I had loads, even some of those big technic kits with pneumatic and electric components. Then we had a fire, originating from my room (no blame on me, i was away). Turned all my stuff to pounds of melted plastic. Even my old big lego Duplo died that day on the attic. It felt like losing a childhood friend.

I agree that the newer sets arent as cool as the old-school kind, theyre a lot less imaginative. And, thought some of the Star Wars sets are kinda cool, Im getting a little tired of all the product tie-ins...some of the new "Lego Designer" sets are actually kinda cool, reminf me of the kind of sets they made when i was a wee lad

I just got all my crap from my mom's. she saved everthing. Hot Wheels, matchbox, G.I. Joes, star wars. I also got a 1979 18" Alien.
TCR Race car tracks, and toms of other shit. I'm going to ebay it all soon. I want to minimalize.

I still like the new lego sets but I remember growing up as a kid non stop playing with this stuff. My parents were cleaning the house and almost tried to sell mine but I just can part with it. Its still in a huge Rubermaid tub under my bed.
If I had time I would still play with it. IMO by far the best toy ever, and would rather do that than play a video game or something as a kid.

In "Microserfs" by Douglas Coupland there's a theory that digital nature of legos prepared our generation for digital, pixelated world.
Playing with these blocks was a totally different way of thinking than, say, with plasticine.

You guys are lucky, all of my old toys was given away. I have nothing, NOTHING!!!!!
LEGOS, LGEOS, LEGOS!!!!!!=P

The only lego I had seemed o consist of red bricks a couple of men and those green base things you could build houses on.
I always wanted the lego train set and build the whole town.

I just got back into Lego.
I love the old *and* the new.
Old stuff left more to the imagination, but dang, they make some nifty new pieces nowadays.so what sets were in the attic?
and yes, thanks for taking off that last "s"

one of the old sets I used to have that I still seem to have most of was a lego DACTA set (DACTA was the original name for lego's learning division). It was a huge set too with all the technic parts and motors and stuff. the best part was it came with these cards that would show some crazy thing, like a chainsaw made out of legos or an electric egg beater, and you had to figure out how to make it yourself. it was a lot of fun and I think I managed to make nearly all of them, except the robot, cause that was hard.
that's a really interesting theory shaft I'd like to read that book. I wonder if something similar can be said about erector sets?
