Should client see them? Why would it be important for them to see?

- To know that you did work and it's original?
- Maybe so they can modify something on the pencil sketch and then make you change it.
I'm not sure why.

did they ask for them?

Also, the developmental process is pretty interesting to look at, in my opinion. But I don't think it's necessary.

somehow showing them my pencil "sad face" sketches and the "I hate (clients name here)" with lightning bolts striking from above might not fly with them...

Show them edited copies of your sketches.

ya edited i think would be good. i dont mind showing them.
thats the first time a client has asked to see them.
the client contact is a former ArtCenter grad, i think thats why

fuck that cocky bullshit. Show 'em what you want. some people don't even use pencil sketch to design. What a cock move. tell 'em to suck it. (in the nicest way, of course)

things tend to look more finished on a computer. sketches keep clients in the mindset that the designs are still drafts.

to see your progress, silly! i usually dont show pencil sketches, but you SHOULD be starting with them.
also, sometimes you omit idea stages when you go to the computer, and if your client likes an idea you skipped on the computer but sketched, then he'll see it and say, "yo, i would like you to computer sketch this one, please."
get it? word.
