Hey, can any mac experts help me out? When nothing is open, my CPU is maxed out! Is there a program i can download to see what the hell is going on, and what i can do to stop the CPU leak?

Finder is using up to 85% sometimes, (spiking)

Go to Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor
It lists all processes. Make sure you select 'All Processes' not just User processes.
Good idea to have this launch at startup and leave running with CPU history chart selected to show in the dock icon.

So you already know it is the Finder using CPU? or are you guessing?

have you tried running an optimization tool? Like, System Optimizer or Onyx?

have you tried a PC... I hear they work wonders for half the price.

i had the same problem. sounds like either you have corrupt fonts (even outside of the fonts folder, if ATSServer is the working helper) or spotlight is indexing (if mdimport is the working app). Corrupt fonts can be fixed or moved with FontDoctor. spotlight will stop eventually.
