I work in an open-concept studio in downtown Toronto. Recently the bosses said the studio will be expanding, physically, or relocating to a new space, and asked us all for our ideas for changing how things are layed out.
I love the open concept thing, and deeply hate cubicles. So I'm asking, my PVN comarades, is there a halfway point? Some privacy/vertical posting space, without the encapsulation and isolation of cubicles?

+ looking desks? person can really see your pc or what your looking at but you can still give eye contact.. dunno

we've got pods, so basically an open space, with cubicles that are waist high, so you can still see everyone when you're sitting at your desk
plus you can hang a plastic hoop on these things and shaq attack your coworkers when you finish you work

brandelec - do these pods have a brand name or website I can pass along?

used to work in an office similar to what brandelec said.
our "cubicles" were pretty big. big opening and the drywalls were cut halfway. so when you're standing you can see everything. but when you're sitting down you can't see anybody and nobody can see you. i love it because those halfway drywalls were painted to match the floor. no uniform grey cubicle like i have right now.

i think the space already had some of these suites left behind before we moved in so they just expanded with more material form the same company

as much as i love open plan offices..... sometimes i wish i had my own space. the fact that i can hear everyone on the phone, and someone can just look over at me and ask me things or start talking is VERY counter productive.
my old work had about 4 feet high walls for offices. you could stand and see everyone, but when you were sitting it was more private. i liked that alot.
