Hey, I wanted to know if anyone knew of a site or other resource that listed samples being used currently and also in the past. I am aware of the site:
http://www.the-breaks.com/
and was looking for something int that vein. Specifically I am looking into samples used by Madlib, MF Doom, 9th Wonder and Alchemist. Thanks. One.

have you checked the forums on the-breaks.com?
people constantly list crazy samples, just search for the artist you're interested in. i found many a nugget that way.

i always get a good response to music related questions on the Ninjatune.net forums
well worth joining for the chat

TNDAP - there maybe be other resources but i dont have them for you. i just want to say the idea of the-breaks.com is self-defeating for the cuture of making music with sampling. one reason is that it's not what you sample but how you use it. if something has been sampled, what do you care? are you going to sample it again? the other reason is the legal complications about sampling. i can tell you as someone who has followed three of the artists you mention for many years, these guys rely on their passion for finding new and old music, and their creativity in the medium, not finding out what other people have sampled.

I love to hear the original songs that samples come from just because oftentimes it's from great original artists that have been completely forgotten over time. I think sampling in general is great at resurrecting great forgotten music.
I'm not interested in making music myself, i just love to hear the roots of things.

ibid on what greedo said. i've discovered tons of music by hunting down the songs people sampled and in many cases i end up like those tracks more than the song that sampled them.
