OMG! What happened to MTV2 website!
- stuff0
Sorry I don't know :\
- Hym0
obviously it's not a good idea because the site doesn't work here.
- gybe0
it works fine here, but you need the latest media player and of course the right security settings.
but i'm wondering about how the does it. need to find out.
- jpea0
i think it's actually windows media player but it's in a div that has a higher z-index than the other content

1st) can't open this in firefox.. niceee..
2nd) where is the media player? only thing i found was a flasg video player in the videos menu.. oO
3rd) possibly an overlayed hidden div?

can't open it in FF because it's DRM'd and active x doesn't work worth a shit in FF.
- Engage_London0
how do you do that?

it works in ie on my pc and you need to have media player v 9.
you have to set your wmp preference to automatically acquire a DRM license.
under Options -> Privacy
choose acquire licenses automatically for protected content.looks like the whole site is one big swf and the media player is inside a div with z-index:2
- jpea0
a little more discussion about it was on the flashcoders list this month.
http://chattyfig.figleaf.com/pip…just search for 'mtv'. there are a coupl threads
- jah_0
it had to be a hidden div.
and thats a shitty way to build a website imo. only works on ie. and media player is required. har har. sucks!

why not use flash viedo instead of the crappy wmplayer.
- jpea0
because of the drm
there's no way in hell mtv could have aquired the rights to just use video on the web without protecting it.
- _lok0
true true... drm is a hassle -___-
- jah_0
yea but instead you got a shitty website that has a lot of If's and do's and don'ts so you can navigate on it. sucks?
hand out a manual with the website!

agreed.
it sucks and is very limited, but those are the caviets when dealing with stupid record labels. The site bogs down my whole PC. can't imagine how it works on a mac.
- jah_0
i would be suprised if it worked at all
- gybe0
thanks for the flashcoders link, jpea.
the rest of the site works fine on my powerbook, but i'm not allowed to see the videos. you need a pc with wmp 9 to see...
