Looks like CBGB may be gone soon. Lease is up Aug 31 and owner is not sure it will renew.
May move to Vegas though...
Bad news for NYC historical rock club.

They may be doing a fundraiser soon. A lot of bands are talking about playing there for free to raise money to save it.
Heard it on the radio the other day.

i HARDLY go there at all. all they stage now is some sappy hardcore bands... havent been there in like... a year!
- jdcomba0
i never go there, but....
they say it's cause they can't afford rent. i think that's bullshit. they probably make enought money off of cbgb's shirts.

it should burn down. best way to end it. seriously. not some gay fundraising shit. it's a fucking dump, best bands in the world player there, burn the motherfucker.

Read an article today. The landlord and owner are already in a dispute over $90,000 in backed rent. Yeh, the place a great history. It'd be a shame to see it turn into some trendy downtown lounge. Burn it!
- usrper0
no. theyre poor. they never bother to host even the slight more popular bands (which is fine to me), i know thats not what theyre about. but places like bowery ballroom host sell out shows every other week.

i heard the owner was very greedy. hearsay i know but that would explain the dump, the money due and the current issue. still, he gave the ramones a shot while no one really dug them. for that a woo yay.

Let it go.

anyone up for a burncbgb.com?

this is news, indeed.
cbgb is such a part of ny. it would be sad to see it turn into something else. it'd be better if it was completely destroyed.

It's part of history and there is less and less of that being represented of that in the world. I don't want to see it go and have everyone say "oh man, i wish i could have seen that." Like the blue note or the village vangard, it's a venue that shouldn't go.
I will admit that i'm not huge on they're business practices. There's a lot of reason that big bands don't like to play there. Part of it is they gouge bands that play there. Big bands are pretty much donating to them by playing there anyway. It's cool to play cBGB's. On the other hand, as a band you will take home more money playing at another place.
They could do well if they'd potenitally get another booker, try to adapt to some newer music, and quit making who ever plays there feel like they are getting screwed.

aren't they developing that block anyway? i thought someone said that the building would be torn down over to the NYU dorms on that block to make way for whatever
