My Flash video hymen is still intact, so bear with me here.
I'm creating an application that will run locally, and need to embed live video within it that will also be captured locally. How do I go about doing this? Do I need Communication Server?

run locally on the user's machine?
an application that they download to run video?
"video that will also be capture locally"? video needs to be able to be saved to user's machine?

No downloading, this is just going to be a prototype of an application that will run locally on a designated machine for a demonstration. A camera will be set up to capture video live that will be played in the application in real time. Is this possible?

what role does Flash have to play in this setup? Why Flash?

The entire application is in Flash. In this particular scenario in the demo, the live video capture will display the user's physical work area.

Flash can display web camera. I think this would be the easyest way. You can plug an most video cams and flash will be able to see them. Just make sure its selected in your right click settings menu.

Epictive,
This can be done in Flash MX 2004, or would I need Flash Communication Server?

Well I'll be buggered, this looks like just the thing. Much appreciated!
