Opinions please
Is it normal for the studio manager/creative director to sit amongst the programmers and designers in the studio or in an office? What would you prefer or any studio managers/creative directors what do you have?

how is it there?

you should seperate yourself from the commons, the have-nots, the workerbees. it shows your status. you should never communicate to them directly, always thru your personal assistent. never look at them directly and make sure there is no parking space in the area for them as well.

actually, you should see your "workforce" as a disease, that way you'll behave more naturally.

ours do, but we're a very small studio (10ish), and they put a good shift of grunt work in as well as management/direction.

were all in together.
we all have car parking spaces.
im the director here, and i wanted to be in with the team to speed up workflow but im finding that i get bombarded or have to take people into the meeting room to talk privatly which makes everyone think they are in trouble. If i had an office it would be normal for people to come in and see me so i could speak privatly without any embbarrisment for them.
am i over thinking it?

grunt work eh?
last week i did 100hours this week im on for the same, i try an make sure nobody has to do overtime except me (unless its unavoidable) i get most of the management done during the day and any "grunt work" in the evening or weekend.
still recruiting bit its not easy outside of london, everybody wants to go down there

we all sit together and the only problem is private conversations or other peeps looking at what is on yr screen. we are also having the same problems with recruitment!

weve done loads of advertising and even some recruitment agencies,
nearly nothing

actually, lovedesign, the ones below you would welcome such a move, seriously, no one likes it when the boss is around.

i wasnt having a rant at you ... just need more staff.
were looking for allrounders and a programmer asp/dreamweaver based.
we need people with attention to detail and who also love design and are mortified if they make something that looks nasty or newbie style, yould think it would be easy :)

Our creative director has his desk amongst ours. And I prefer so, 'cause if need him, i don't have to go to call him in his office (and btw our office is an open space, so is difficult have personal offices)
