Thanks Clerk,
It looks very different to anything I used before, must be somthing really simple iam not doing.. but I cant seem to do anything.. EG:
How do I add effects to an image i have added to a compisition, how do I draw on the work area? nothings happening when I try.

you've to add layers in the times line i.e add "solids" and go from there...
- clerk0
sorry that would be "in the timeline"
- chossy0
if you want to add them to the center of your timeline hit apple and forward slash :D

I dont imagine too many people acually draw in after effects, as you might in flash. I know most of the stuff I do in ae is created by drawing in Illy or PS, and bringing that artwork in. Also get a DV camcorder and Premiere. AE's magic comes in messing with videos, etc.

Also a huge tip I can offer, being that you are used to flash, is to make sure you have the quality of your layers containing vector images correct. Otherwise you will be frustrated because it looks as if you vector graphics are being rasterized.

thanks folks

create a composition (static) in illus or ps, making sure to sepparate the layers according to what you want them to do.
Import the file and start animating.
The only thing worth creating and working with inside Ae is text. Very flexible.

Is it possible to create 3d graphics in AE? for example, I created a logo in 3d swift, Can I produce this in AE?

I wouls say take a look at http://transistorstudios.com to see what you can do with it.

yeah, but can you create 3d objects in it or not? lol

you can't really model in 3d, but you can work in 3d space. make a 3d layer and experiment yourself...

yeah, get a few images, put them on separate layers..
Check the 3d layer box, add a camera, change the camera properties to wide-angle, fly it around the images, chuck in a bit of Trapcode Shine plugin, 3d Stroke and Starglow..
Play around with 'The Wobbler', import some audio..
Repeat ad infinitum, consistently in a state of angst as you realise you really really really need a faster computer with more ram..

heh, How do I add key frames?
