Have any of you have succesfully gone from having cable tv to not having it anymore?
I'm moving soon, and probably won't be able to afford it anymore.
Part of me welcomes this and says, "You'll be better off. Less tv, more reading, more writing music, more actually watching movies in my DVD collection instead of TV, more working on artwork, etc."
Who knows how to give me the proper willpower? And how in the hell will I get by without Viva La Bam, Entourage, Sopranos, Ali G??

I have cable TV and I never watch it..... 0_o

fan of hbo's original programming, 'eh?
yeah, you're pretty much screwed then.

What do you watch on Cable now anyway, it's all shite.
Just say no, and pick up a book.

Since 3 years i'm living without TV. Ok, in Italy TV is almost shit, but, i don't miss it. In the evening i watch some DVD, and luckly here there is a decent Web OnDemand TV, so i can watch news/programs with a broadband connection.

Im about to embark on the same boat...im moving Friday and we're not getting cable for the fact that all we watch is [adult swim] and comedy central... i wish you can just buy specific channels
Prolly go crazy for the first week or so, but surely get alot of work and projects done in the end

I haven't watched ANY TV for the last 15 years. NONE.

I know, canuck, I know!
I think I'm addicted to the fact that it's, well, just there. I have a DVR receiver (like Tivo) and that thing is fantastic. Don't have to base my evening around when something is on.
I keep thinking that intellectually, I'm better off reading books and such, concentrating on songwriting more, etc.

cable just wastes time... stop watching and start WORKING!

On the flipside, I WON'T get rid of my Netflix membership, so I think that will make up for not having cable.
My GF has suggested that I just get the DVD's of the shows I like on HBO, but then that means I can't talk about them at work the next day with my Entourage/Sopranos/Ali G attorney friends!

do ppl still watch tv?

I recommend watching as little tv as possible if any at all.

I did it 3 years ago and dont miss a thing. whats the point in having 100 channels of shite compared to 5?

judging by US TV I'm concerned that you actually found something to watch.....
I've never had it, and probably never will. I'm in the UK and currently have the 4 and half channels that is 1-4 and shite reception of CH5....
I can live with that, only watch the news.....

the problem with me watching a tv series on DVD is that i can't stop myself from watching the whole series if i like it. i don't have to wait until next week or something to watch what happens in the next episode

i had cable til the last 3 years when we ditched it...it was utter shite.
we get the occasional local stuff and pbs if needed, but otherwise we use the tv for watching movies.
you'll find that there are far more interesting things to do with your time and brain.

sounds like ill b living better with out it...
i cant wait to see what happens

Give up cable?!? I'd rather give up killing hookers. I mean shit, they're already dead on the inside anyways.

I just had to move and i cant afford it anymore.
Sucks but i have gotten alot of sidework done now. bottom line it sucks it sucks the most on the weekends when you are nursing a hang over or something and the only thing you can watch is golf and nascar
- mg330
Only thing that sucks is that I have quite a bit of live music shows recorded on my DVR.
Anyone know how to send that to a computer?
- mrdobolina0
just use bittorrent to DL the shows you will miss.
