I read about this on the way to work this morning and thought nothing of the name of the person who was killed.
It wasn't until minutes ago as I was sitting on the toilet reading the paper that I saw a picture of the person who was killed and instantly recognized him as someone I worked with at Banana Republic for almost two years.
One of the nicest people I worked with there. Totally calm, considerate person. This is too much. Stuff like this happens here and there and you see it on the news, but of course never expect it to be someone you know.
I'm really sad about this, what a messed up world this can be.

that's very sad mg33... it's sad someones life is taken so young.
i had a similiar friend who died in an auto accident, i worked with her years ago, she was a gentel, beautiful girl, she had a good soul, and had this aura about her that was somehow different. it's so strange how people come into and out of our lives like a dream, but we remeber them forever....

It's really sad. The thing I remember about him was that he'd often wear one of those green army hats that are ever so popular these days in the skater/indie music set.
He'd sometimes have a slight beard grown out and I'd tell him that the hat made him look like a young Fidel Castro.

My only sister died a little over 10 years ago in a very bad car wreck, all by herself. We think she fell asleep while driving, and no one saw it happen. She was hurt really badly, thrown about 40 feet from her truck because of not wearing her seat belt. It was hard to think about how physically wounded she was. This guy being murdered in Chicago is the first person I've known since my sister that I physically knew who has died a tragic, brutal death. It's really tough to think about what someone looked like, and how horribly disfigured they must have been to have been killed with a fucking bike lock.

they just beat the guy? what the fuck?

i'm really sorry to hear this.
it's really really fucked up - and sometimes we really don't understand why people have to die this way...

mg, sorry about your sister

Oh man, what a random act of sensless violence...ruins four lives..knuckleheads..

Thanks brandelec. It's strange that it was 10 years ago. Seems like yesterday it happened.
It's hard to think about how different your life would be if you hadn't lost certain family. My sister would have been bugging me like crazy to have gotten my grades better during freshman/sophmore year in college so I could go to UT Austin for my last two years.
Told my girlfreind last week that the way I figured it, if my sister were still alive, I would have never met my GF, because I would have never moved to Chicago. Strange to think about life that way...

sorry to hear that :(

i know what you mean, my ex's roommate lost her fiance in a car crash right after their pre-marriage hoop-la
its easy to go on and on thinking about what would be different and to not bother with everyday bullshit
