I'm workin on a mac g3 today running 0s 9.2 & Photoshop 6.
A client has given me (who is not as mac literate as i should be) specific fonts for a project.
Im workin on a .psd that was created using the fonts ive been emailed.
Ive dragged and dropped all fonts ( those wierd mac folders and suitcases, post scripts etc) into the system fonts folder....
BUT when i open photoshop the text layers have a grey exclamation triangle on them...which is usually fine...but this time when i go to change the type to 'crisp' the text goes really 'pixelly' and not smooth as it should be..
I came acorss this problem before but cant remember how i solved it.. I think i took all weird mac font things out of the fonts folder and opened up the 'screen fonts' folder and dragged them into the system fonts folder on their own..not sure tho...
can any marvelously minded mac'cer help me out please??
thanks alot..

atm light - makes screen fonts from postscripts - quick thing to try. good for font smoothing in quark running in classic and free to boot

Thanks Jim Im just tryin it now...
is it an actual application as such...im tryin to find the application program on the mac hd... (im useless when it gets all technical on macs)
or does it run alongside photoshop??

it runs in the background, um not sure where you'll find it, but if you have it installed there will be a control panel for it (apple menu > control panels > atm i think)
if you just install it and restart it'll start doing its thing...fingers crossed

It hasnt worked Jim.. :(
All other fonts are fine...just one particular font which lookeds jagged when it should be smooth, its like your zoomed in at an akward percentage...the font looks disjointed.
How should all the fonts be stored in the fonts folder, is there a particular fashion??..
damn it...ive wasted a whole day tryin to sort this out, my frustration which old macs is growing..
thanks anway jim

thanks smell but how can i solve it? any ideas
- JimHunt0
hmm, got that wrong didn't i
um, i usually just dump fonts into the fonts folder - or you can just drop them on the closed system folder too and it'll put them in the right place
sounds like your doing it right, if the font bits are in there, and atm is on i'm a bit stuck from then on
sorry i could be a bit more helpful

Not a pro on fonts but I do know they are very fragile things. If you were emailed with out them being zipped then there is potential for data to be lost. Ask the client to email them again.
Plus, check the same font in illus sse if it works, if it does just copy and paste over.
