i've always wondered who here got the green fingers?
i mean so many people here live in inside apt.blocks in cities and prolly dont even have gardens?
- ********0
lots of people here have green fingers, but i think thats from smoking too much weed
I grew up with a big nice garden, always miss it in the summer time

i moved back in with my parents because i can't afford to live in the kind of place i want to live in. also i've put so much work into the garden here that it seems a shame to move.
we have 2.5 acres. a nice big patio where i keep some potted plants and some veggies [so the deer won't get them.]
in the back garden i've got all sorts of plants.
lots of irises, dianthus, peonies, daisies, grasses, nasturtium, mint, strawberries, chives, lavender, and tons of ferns.
some other misc stuff here and there.keeping the deer away is a huge problem, but i'm learning which ones they absolutely won't touch no matter how hungry they get.
i'll take some photos someday soon and post them!

My daughter who is 15 (shit!) used to hang out with my Grandma in the garden when she was little.
She has had her own garden here at our house for the past two years and grows everything brilliantly. Carrots, onions, lettuce, peas, chiles...everything. She must have gotten the green thumb for Gma.

My gf and i have a little community garden plot in boston. The garden is run by these ultra-conscious old school hippies, so everything has to be 100% organic etc.
It's not much, but it's the best to get dirty and sweaty and then have your own lettuce and strawberries etc.

oh, i must add that i noted that in this region a lot of gardens need a lot of work. it's amazing how fast everything grows this year. it's probably because of relatively high temperatures and sun but also periods of intense rain.. somehow the plants really appreciate this mix.
i am only gradually learning about plants/flowers lately.. but we use Dutch names for most of these so i need to check translation for this...
i will see if i can put up a gallery anytime soon!
great to hear other NT'ers are into gardening!
hehe, i never felt like mentioning it here earlier cuz i thought i would be regarded an old retired fart or something..
;P

I gotta say, holland has to be the most intensely farmed country in the world. Never in my life have i seen so many greenhouses.

yeah, it also has a downside.
there's very very little "original"/untouched nature left here.
(almost) everything has been cultivated.

that's what vacation's for. ;)

yeah but still.. i love to cycle.. and i sometimes miss mountains and large forests here. the only good cycling track for mtb's here is less then 4 miles long simply cuz the "forest" doesn't allow for longer tracks..
i can comfort myself with the beaches&dunes here tho. got plenty of it.

Well holland never had a mountain to begin with. And it's also the most bike-friendly country i've ever seen (haven't seen that many tho).
So quit your whining.
If you want a harrowing bike experience, try riding on Boston's streets. See if you can avoid the potholes and the Fedex trucks at the same time.

haha in fact i sometimes think about that.. i think i'd love to do some urban suicidal cycling one day. kind of like those couriers in NYC, those guys seem rather tired of life sometimes. :O
anyway, it's waaaay too late.
i'm off to bed. g'nite folks!
