avi into After Effects? Help please!

okay hey folks...I'd just like to take an avi from my canon S50 into after effects, so I can output the thing as a tif sequence.
So far, all I get is black frames!
Any ideas as to how I might remedy this?

open your avi in quicktime.... if it does not play or you get the black frames you need to apple j or apple i , to get the information of the movie up go to video and then format it will tell you what codec was used go online and download the proper codec and it will work after that, if it just doestn't work in after effects but fine in quicktime export it as an image sequence or a .mov (make sure you use s codec alreadu n your computer)it will work fine then.
