you will not belive how good and loud this thing plays, i was at a party with 50+ people last weekend and this was the only thing playing.. I was looking for the stereo all night in my drunkness, but found out this was the only thing playing... portable .. mhmm i would say it is..
and this one always had a place in my heart, but girls only imo.

Sony srs-t55 are the way to go. Got then awhile back for my minidisc and laptop and they still sound better than any other system I have heard for their size. They even kick ass on the more expensive sony models.
