This is so f*cked up...a friend of mine has been working for the same design studio for seven and a half years now. She's basically the only creative in the place since the owner decided to focus on interactive vs. print. (Believe me, you cannot count the owner as a "creative" even though he assumes the title of Creative Director --- total hack!) Last night he tells her that she'll be taking a 20% cut in pay because business is bad YET what do I find on Creative Hotlist when I try to help her out and search for a new job in Omaha? A f*cking job posting for f*cking David Day & Associates from two weeks ago! Shady? How do you justify hiring more people when you expect your current employees to take a cut in pay because business is so slow? And 20% too. So not cool! I used to work for this guy and believe me, he is a complete and total ass!
So, anyone know of any job openings in Omaha for an incredibly talented senior designer??? Seriously, she kicks ass --- mostly print, some web --- and she deserves a whole lot better than this. Any help/ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks ;)

unbelieveable indeed, a post about Omaha, dudeeee. I am in omaha... what agency does she work at? I would highly not recommend corp3 or archrival...

sorry to here that, my design director just told me today that they might offer me a full time job(contractor now) and it will probably pay 30-40% less than what I'm making right now.
Needless to say I'm less than excited.

i know the pickings are slim in omaha...that's why i left four years ago. you get to a point and there's just no where else to go. of course my advice is get the hell out of omaha....not that it's all bad. i used to be very involved with the aiga there and i've seen some impressive work. it's more an issue with this asshole --- to treat an employee who's clearly been loyal (7 and a half years is a hell of long time), hasn't had a raise even in i don't know how long....it's just bullshit. HE NEEDS TO SUFFER!!!
kOna, if you leave now, you could be there in like 7 hours ;)

ask him if he is 'fuckstrated'

agreed. very slim pickings... if you're not involved in aiga, the sky is an even lesser shade of blue.. the only real talented firms in this area are in KC, mk12, blacktop, etc., best off moving to IL or MN, or the coasts, which like you I hope to follow... how did you like working for Joe Sacco?

honestly, i hated working for joe but he did me a favor. another designer and i had gotten laid off from the asshole in question (dday), and i had three months before i was leaving for grad school in sf. joe was great to give me a job for only three months knowing i was leaving, but the place just isn't very creative. not a great client list.

I am guessing the pickin's must be slim in nebraska.. I grew up and moved out(lincoln) ASAP. decent and cheap place to live but man does the weather suck there.. have her move to denver. nice weather and more jobs somewhat close to omaha :)

She should consult a lawyer and see if he is violating her rights. 20% pay cut is a lot. Tell her not to take it sitting down.
She's gotta right to fight.

i once stopped in lincoln on a road trip. boy, i went to a diner and it was straight outta 1951.
sorry to hear bout the dillemma.

But there ain't nothing like a Huskers football weekend in Lincoln. Had a blast there 2 years ago. I'd do it again... for 2 days max... then get the hell out of 1951
